Porschin'
This page
will follow the restoration of a 2.7 liter 1976 Porsche 911S
Targa.
We bought this car without much research on this model of
Porsche. Turns out that the 2.7 liter engine is well known for
its problems. We immediatly discovered that we were leaking more
oil than than Exxon.
Additions since buying include: new paint, tires, battery,
windshield and windshield gaskets, lower valve covers, Turbo
chain tensioners, heater blower motor, washer fluid pump, fix on
Targa top, cool colar, various body seals, and numerous other
small items.
After installation of the new valve covers we had a significant
decrease in oil leaks, and our cat litter purchases went way down
as well. The Turbo chain tensioners were also a necessary
addition.
The Targa is not as popular with Porsche buyers because the Targa
top is prone to leaking and is often expensive to fix. We still
have some leak issues to fix ourselves but the stainless steel
rollbar is just too sweet.
The next projects include: ways to facillitate oil cooling, lots
of interior work, more gaskets n seals, more work on Targa top,
soundproofing, floor boards, and who knows what else will come
up.
